Yesterday started the first day of our corporate Daniel fast. In my time with the Lord this morning and studying His Word, one thing I was reminded of is how we all tend to make things ritualistic. The message yesterday from Isaiah 58 was abundantly clear on the importance of our heart posture and if we are following all the rules in the world for our fast but our heart isn't right, then we are just dieting.
Yes, it is good to set boundaries.
Yes, it is healthy to make sure we are following guidelines.
However, let us make sure that our hearts are right before the Lord first.
This fast is not only about what we can or can't eat. It's not about what we can get away with and still be fasting. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus and yearn to draw near to Him. Oh, brothers and sisters, how I long to be close to Him. This fast will bring you into a deeper and more intimate relationship with the Creator.
Prayer Focus: Today, let us focus on setting our hearts right before the Lord. Let us remember the MAIN reason we are fasting: to draw near to Him.
Scripture Focus: Psalm 42
